Chamber Chorus Director
Francis Vu is the Director of Choirs at Centennial High School, where he directs the A Cappella Women, Titan Men, Bella Voce, and Lyric choirs, along with Vibe, the premier vocal jazz ensemble. Previously, Francis taught at McKinney HS in McKinney, TX, and Rouse HS in Austin, TX. His choirs have received consistent Superior ratings in concert and sight reading at UIL Contest, and his students have enjoyed the experience of singing in the All-Region and All-State choirs.
Francis serves as the Director of the Turtle Creek Chorale Chamber Chorus. Auditioned from the main chorus, this 30-voice men’s chorus performs two concert series a year – one in the Fall semester, and another in the Spring semester.
In the summer of 2017, Francis was awarded the TCDA Graduate Student Scholarship to begin his Master’s studies at Michigan State University. He is pursuing a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting, studying under Drs. David Rayl, Jonathan Reed, and Sandra Snow. In March 2018, Francis competed in the Southwestern ACDA Graduate Conducting Semifinals in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and was selected as the Runner Up. His undergraduate degree, a Bachelor’s Degree in Choral Music Education with a Voice concentration, is from Baylor University, where he sang under the directions of Drs. Lynne Gackle and Alan Raines.
In July of 2018, Francis was nominated and selected as the Texas Choral Directors Association Young Director of Distinction. A year prior, Francis was awarded the Turtle Creek Chorale Upcoming Director Award. In addition, Francis’s professional services include serving as a clinician for choirs such as the Region 25 MS Tenor-Bass Choir and the Rice MS TMEA Tenor-Bass Choir. He also served as the Region 24 Mixed Choir Organizer. Francis has presented at teacher in-services in Frisco ISD and McKinney ISD, and has served as adjudicator for various districts in the area, most recently as a UIL judge for Region 20’s UIL Concert/Sight Reading Contest as well as the annual Gunter HS Small-School Area Clinic. Francis sings in choirs in the Dallas area such as the Turtle Creek Chorale and St. Mark’s Schola. His most recent collaboration was with the Turtle Creek Chorale at the Southwest ACDA performance in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
A proud member of TMEA, TCDA, ACDA, and NAfME, Francis’s passion for teaching choral music stems from the belief that “music truly can change lives.” He loves his job, and he loves spending time with his wonderful partner, Kyle, his family, and his friends.
